Worked Examples

Practice with these CBSE-style questions. Work through each problem by hand first, then check your answer using the calculator.

1

Quadratic Equations (Class 10)

standard

Problem:

Find the roots of 2x² − 5x + 3 = 0 using the quadratic formula.

Solution:

x = (5 ± √(25 − 24)) / 4 = (5 ± 1) / 4. So x = 6/4 = 3/2 or x = 4/4 = 1.

Answer: x = 3/2 or x = 1

2

Trigonometric Identities (Class 10)

standard

Problem:

If sin A = 3/5, find cos A and tan A where A is acute.

Solution:

Using sin²A + cos²A = 1: cos²A = 1 − 9/25 = 16/25, so cos A = 4/5. tan A = sin A / cos A = (3/5) / (4/5) = 3/4.

Answer: cos A = 4/5, tan A = 3/4

3

Differentiation (Class 12)

higher

Problem:

Find dy/dx if y = e²ˣ sin(3x).

Solution:

Using the product rule: dy/dx = e²ˣ × 3cos(3x) + sin(3x) × 2e²ˣ = e²ˣ(3cos(3x) + 2sin(3x)).

Answer: dy/dx = e²ˣ(3cos(3x) + 2sin(3x))

4

Definite Integration (Class 12)

higher

Problem:

Evaluate the integral of x² from 1 to 3.

Solution:

Antiderivative of x² is x³/3. Evaluate: [3³/3] − [1³/3] = 27/3 − 1/3 = 26/3.

Answer: 26/3 ≈ 8.67

5

Probability (Class 12)

standard

Problem:

A bag contains 5 red and 3 blue balls. Two balls are drawn without replacement. Find the probability that both are red.

Solution:

P(both red) = (5/8) × (4/7) = 20/56 = 5/14.

Answer: 5/14 ≈ 0.357
