Find the integral of x * e^x with respect to x.

Differentiation (Chain Rule)

higher

Differentiate y = (3x^2 + 5)^4 with respect to x.

Normal Distribution (Statistics)

advanced

The heights of students are normally distributed with mean 168 cm and standard deviation 6 cm. Find the probability that a randomly selected student is taller than 174 cm.

Express 5/(x^2 - 1) in partial fractions and hence find the integral of 5/(x^2 - 1) dx.

A-Level Maths FAQ

Can I use a calculator in A-Level Maths exams?▾
It depends on the paper and exam board. Edexcel and OCR do not allow calculators on Paper 1 (Pure Maths). AQA allows calculators on all three papers. WJEC does not allow calculators on Paper 1. Papers covering Statistics and Mechanics generally allow calculators across all boards.
What type of calculator is allowed for A-Level Maths?▾
Scientific calculators are allowed on all calculator papers. Graphing calculators are also permitted by all major exam boards. However, calculators must not have symbolic algebra capability (CAS), internet access, or the ability to store text. Always check the JCQ approved calculator list before your exam.
When are the A-Level Maths exams in 2026?▾
A-Level Maths exams are typically held during the May to June window. For 2026, the exam period runs from approximately 12 May to 20 June. Exact dates vary by exam board and paper. Check your exam board's timetable for confirmed dates.
How many papers are there in A-Level Maths?▾
Most exam boards set three papers, each lasting 2 hours and worth 100 marks. Edexcel has Paper 1 (Pure), Paper 2 (Pure), and Paper 3 (Statistics & Mechanics). AQA has Paper 1 (Pure), Paper 2 (Pure & Mechanics), and Paper 3 (Pure & Statistics). OCR has a similar structure. WJEC sets two papers: Paper 1 (Pure, 2 hrs 30 min) and Paper 2 (Applied, 1 hr 45 min).
What topics are covered in A-Level Maths?▾
A-Level Maths covers Pure Mathematics (proof, algebra, coordinate geometry, sequences, trigonometry, exponentials, logarithms, calculus, vectors), Statistics (sampling, data presentation, probability, statistical distributions, hypothesis testing), and Mechanics (kinematics, forces, moments, Newton's laws). The exact weighting varies by exam board.
What grade do I need in A-Level Maths for university?▾
Grade requirements vary by university and course. For STEM degrees at competitive universities, an A or A* in A-Level Maths is typically expected. Engineering and science courses often require at least a B. Some courses also require or prefer Further Maths. Check UCAS entry requirements for your chosen course.
